Comics YOuth CIC x Grow-Wellbeing CIC Creative discovery walk

workshop worksheet

I was commissioned by Comics Youth CIC and Grow Wellbeing CIC to develop and deliver an illustration workshop as part of a creative discovery walk for young people to engage with the coastal environment of Hilbre Island, off the coast of the Wirral peninsula.
The walk was 2 miles long, which started on West Kirby Beach, over to Little Eye, then Middle Eye, and finally Hilbre Island. The environment is blustery and exposed to the Irish Sea and Dee Estuary, and a rich coastal landscape.
For the workshop, the young people collected items they found along the way, such as seaweed, shells and feathers, engaging them with the unique environment.
On the island, we took a tour of the buoy-master's cottage, used binoculars to watch seals on a distant sandbank, and finally settled down to draw what we collected along the way.
Jim from Grow Wellbeing brought homemade charcoal he had prepared, which the young people used to create drawings of what they found. The charcoal had a very distinctive texture, and perfectly encapsulated what the young people found along the walk.
After, we walked down to the beach to have hot chocolate and marshmallows, which was the perfect way to end a day of exploring the island.

Convenience Gallery - Life drawing & Social
This illustrated poster was commissioned by Convenience Gallery for their monthly Life Drawing event. As a regular attendant, they asked me to create a piece that reflected the style and imagery I used within my own life drawing. I enjoyed developing my life drawing studies into a poster, and figuring out how to translate the traditional pen and marker drawings into a digital piece.
Convenience Gallery have continued to use the poster for subsequent events throughout the year, the poster being successful in rebranding Convenience Gallery's Life Drawing social and bringing in a much larger attendance than previous months.

Convenience Gallery - 'Not A Cloud In The Sky', Birkenhead Park
This illustration was created for Convenience Gallery's exhibition 'Not A Cloud In The Sky', celebrating Birkenhead Park's 175th birthday. The park has significance not only on the Wirral but parks around the world, serving as the inspiration for Central Park, NYC.
In this illustration, I focused on highlighting the attractions in the park, such as the architecture, nature and wildlife. I wanted to use a bright and vibrant palette to reflect the beauty of the park, and entice visitors to engage more with what the park has to offer.
The piece was illustrated digitally and then was printed as an A3 Risograph print, using in Green and Fluorescent Pink ink, and printed on Context Natural 250gsm paper. The printing was fulfilled by RISOTTO in Glasgow.
